Josh Whelan joins Petrus as Vice President & Senior Consultant
Petrus Development is pleased to announce the addition of Josh Whelan to the Petrus team as Vice President and Senior Consultant. Josh comes to Petrus from the Fellowship of Catholic University Students where he spent nearly three years as a Sr. Director and Area Director of the South Region. As a member of the Petrus team, Josh will bring his experience and passion for Catholic philanthropy to ministries looking to form strong development foundations, build up their programming and accelerate their physical and ministerial growth.
The President of Petrus, Andrew Robison, is thrilled to have Josh joining the team. “Josh is a true professional that really understands how to grow a ministry and take it from good to great! He has had amazing experiences throughout his career implementing annual fund strategies, securing major gifts and planning and launching capital campaigns, and he’s an excellent teacher and coach. His passion for his Catholic faith drives him and I believe that clients will benefit from everything he brings to the table.”
Josh has worked in the development arena since 2005. Between 2005 and 2017, Josh had development roles with the University of Mississippi, Delta Health Alliance and Palmer Home for Children in Mississippi. In 2017, Josh joined FOCUS on their Mission Development team. As Area Director of the South, Josh managed a team of six major gift officers, personally worked with donors from Oklahoma to North Carolina and was a key player in the $250M Run as to Win Campaign.

Josh is a convert to the Catholic faith and eager for this new opportunity to help spread the faith. “I believe that a strong and vibrant Catholic Church is what our culture needs right now.
“Being part of and leading capital campaigns at Ole Miss and Palmer Home for Children was incredibly important, but at FOCUS I had a front row seat to the impact that Catholic philanthropy can have on young people struggling to find their way. I believe that the work that Petrus is doing to help form, build and grow development programs at Catholic institutions is exactly what is required for our Church to prosper. I am extremely excited to be a part of that!”
Josh earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology and a Masters of Arts in Higher Education Administration from the University of Mississippi. Josh and his wife, Mary Kate live in Oxford, MS with their three children. When he’s not working with clients, Josh loves to read, tailgate at Ole Miss Rebel games and spend time with his kids.
