Job Details/Compensation

  • Full-time, 12-month position
  • Salary range: $50,000-$70,000 (commensurate with experience)
  • Monthly stipends given for cell phone reimbursement
  • Benefits as provided by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh, including medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance and a 403(b) plan  

 

Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Development is responsible for growing the fundraising and development work of Elon Catholic Campus Ministry (CCM). This is a full-time position with frequent travel that extends into evenings and weekends. The Assistant Director of Advancement is hired by the Diocese of Raleigh and reports to the Director of Catholic Life at Elon University.    

 

Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

Fundraising (60% of time)

  • Work with the Director of Catholic Life to prepare and execute an annual advancement calendar.
  • Increase the total number and amount of donations to Elon CCM, hitting set benchmarks per year.
  • Work with Director of Catholic Life and Associate Chaplain for Catholic Life to cultivate donor relationships and solicitations:
    • Identify, establish, and maintain personal contact with current and prospective donors, both locally and in other geographic areas
    • Maintain an active pool of prospective benefactors with ability of high-level giving and/or Advisory Board membership
    • Conduct a minimum of ten (10) face-to-face visits monthly in the form of cultivation, solicitation, or stewardship meetings
    • Encourage Elon Society level annual gifts ($1,500-$25,000), monthly recurring giving, and multi-year pledges
    • Assist in coordinating Associate Chaplain’s face-to-face visits with top-level current and prospective donors
  • Coordinate details of the Annual Fund Campaign:
    • Two primary annual mail appeals to parents of current Catholic students, alumni, past donors, and other constituents
    • CCM’s annual Elon Day efforts:
      • Assist in setting up all gift matches and challenges
      • Establish teams/captains to champion efforts
    • Smaller appeals such as Giving Tuesday, Calendar Year-End, Fiscal Year-End
    • Organization and segmentation of mailing lists
    • Printing and mailing of appeal letters and remittance materials

Operations (25%)

  • Ensure proper stewardship of gifts:
    • Record donor and gift information, including offertory donations, in a timely manner
    • Print and mail gift acknowledgment letters on a weekly basis
    • Bring gifts to Elon’s Office of Advancement Services
    • Seek new methods of thanking donors
  • Maintain Raiser’s Edge donor database:
    • Enter/import all parent information when lists are received from the university
    • Keep track of outstanding pledges
    • Update donor information and activity notes when necessary
    • Reconcile gift accounts to ensure accurate data
    • Export and prepare reports as needed
  • Establish relationship with Elon’s Office of University Advancement (UA):
    • Meet monthly with a liaison from UA
    • Update UA on CCM’s needs and priorities at least twice a year
    • Ensure necessary lists are received according to CCM’s advancement calendar

Engagement & Strategic Leadership (15%)

  • Attend weekly CCM staff meetings.
  • Work with the Director of Catholic Life to plan and implement two CCM Advisory Board meetings per year.
  • Collaborate with staff on donor-facing events such as Move-In Weekend, Family Weekend, Homecoming, and Commencement.
  • Provide creativity and strategic thinking to propose new initiatives to advance overall donor engagement.
  • Assist in development communications:
    • Three annual newsletters (Fall with annual giving report, Winter, Spring) to parents of current Catholic students, alumni, past donors, and other constituents
    • Regular email newsletters
    • Production of printed fundraising materials such as proposals, brochures, cards, etc.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of a future capital campaign.
  • Other duties as requested.

Personal Development

  • Develop personal skills as a Catholic leader
    • Pursue and maintain an active, growing relationship with God through daily prayer.
    • Regularly celebrate the sacraments.
    • Read Scripture and other Catholic works to further knowledge of the faith.
    • Attend or participate in one continuing education program each year.

  

Skills and Abilities:

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Two (2) + years prior experience in professional fundraising work preferred
  • Passion and enthusiasm toward the mission of Elon Catholic Campus Ministry
  • Good teamwork skills with an aptitude for continuous learning
  • Thoroughness in planning and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to be flexible and work independently on a variety of projects
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to work with staff, students, board members, and donors.
  • Proficiency using database software (Raisers Edge NXT), Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and Google Workspace
