Summary:

James Madison University is a public, liberal arts university with an undergraduate population of approximately 20,000 students. The Campus Minister, alongside the other members of the Campus Ministry Team, is responsible for coordinating pastoral, programmatic, and catechetical activity of the Catholic Campus Ministry with student leaders. The Campus Minister is also responsible for developing student leaders, pastorally responding to student needs, and accompanying students during their college experience. An ideal candidate will be a practicing Catholic who has a commitment to prayer, a desire to know God, and an excitement to share the Gospel with college students.

Job Details:

This is a full-time exempt position on a salary basis.  The salary is commensurate with experience and diocesan pay scale.

  

Requirements:

Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing.  A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required with a master’s degree preferred (in a relevant field).  2-3 years of prior experience in pastoral work, preferably campus ministry.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Work directly with students, in discipleship, participating with on-campus events, greeting at Sunday Masses.
  • Support the Student Council in event planning, retreat, and digital evangelization by:
    • Supervising student programs and activities (including but not limited to music ministry, faith sharing groups, retreats, community service projects, alternative break trips)
    • Providing logistical support for activities and events proposed by the student leadership
  • Meet with students as needed to provide spiritual support and guidance by:
    • Hosting regular office hours
    • Being present to all students at campus ministry events and more generally on campus
  • Work alongside the Director and Chaplain in developing programs and curriculum for student formation and catechesis by: 
    • Planning student leadership retreats
    • Meeting regularly with the Director, Chaplain, and FOCUS team director to discuss formational needs of the students 
    • Presenting and speaking on topics of faith, morals, and spirituality as needed 
  • Collaborate with Diocesan Office for Evangelization by participating in events (i.e. Campus Ministry Summit and other yearly retreats) and campus ministry staff events (i.e. Fall Meeting and Spring Retreat and Conference)
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
