Position Summary:

As our Director of Philanthropy, you will grow our major gift program. You’ll be responsible for identifying new prospects and guiding them through the various stages of giving, as well as managing and cultivating relationships with existing donors. An ability to listen to donors and ask questions to determine philanthropic fit while empathizing with them and clearly communicate Biking for Babies’ mission is key. You’ll be expected to energize team members, persuade prospects and persevere to the end.



Primary Responsibilities:
  • Help donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with Biking for Babies

  • Secure major gifts ranging from $1,000 to $100,000 with an annual goal of $250,000 from new contacts primarily, but also inviting donors to renew their gifts

  • Manage and utilize systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects using our donor database

  • Manage existing portfolio of donors and prospects, with a maximum portfolio of 100 people

  • Work with the Executive Director to set goals and align our efforts to surpass them

  • Create and implement moves management/engagement plans

  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, as well as phone calls and emails to cultivate, solicitate and steward donors

  • Assist the board and other staff with their solicitations (e.g. provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications)

  • Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition as is fitting for each individual or organization

  • Research, write and submit grant applications, which requires competency in writing, financial spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and creating and editing videos

  • Assist in planning an annual fundraising event, including obtaining and stewarding event sponsors, contacting vendors, overseeing marketing materials, and volunteer coordination

  • Track and report progress weekly using specific metrics

  • Participate in training and development and team meetings

  • Collaborate with Biking for Babies staff, volunteers, and missionaries regarding communications, event management, and fundraising

  • Travel 50% of the time for mission partner meetings and events, depending on where you reside

  • Works w/ ED to represent B4B at community events, PRC events, outreach events, tv/radio shows

  • Plan social media posts to appeal to donors

This job might be for you if:
  • You are looking for a tangible and exciting opportunity in the pro-life movement and demonstrate a commitment to promoting the Biking for Babies mission
  • You have at least 2 of years of nonprofit fundraising or sales experience and have shown an ability to secure individual and major gifts and meet objectives. You make donors feel valued because you’re sensitive to their needs.
  • You are comfortable using a donor database, prospect research and other wealth screening tools to aid in your moves management process.
  • You can make and keep friends. You establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies.
  • You have honed your writing and speaking skills and use them to compel individuals to action.
  • You aren’t someone who spends a lot of time in the weeds, but you know donors expect you to be organized, prepared, detail-oriented and to follow through on promises.
  • People are inspired by your determination. You bring people in line with a vision and motivate them to reach goals.
  • You possess a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, business or really any degree
  • Physical prowess not required

    You won’t need the endurance of a stallion, but you will have some light physical demands (i.e. spending hours listening and talking; working on the computer and phone; driving to appointments and events; and occasionally working long days, nights or multiple weekends).
